An Ibrahim Jalloh -(Jallomy's) Commentary✍🏾

Armed robbery has been a disturbing menace in Makeni city and its immediate environs. Consequently, the unpleasant act has brought the police in the Makeni Division to public scrutiny and harsh criticism.

Frantic and coordinated efforts were made by the police, starting with the establishment of an anti robbery unit and now an auxiliary unit dubbed the Crack Squad.

The intent and purpose of the Crack Squad are operationally sound as explained by the official mouthpiece of the police in the region. As a matter of fact, stemming the tide of armed robbery is an urgent and compelling need in a largely commercial and administrative center like Makeni.

Notwithstanding, the obviously clear security objectives of the Crack Squad, the operations of the Crack Squad have been questioned and doubted by  some members of the public as being aggressive and ruthless in the execution of their functions. At the extreme, some people in the municipality are suspicious of the Crack Squad as being political.

This view is somehow far  fetched but has challenged the police to additional education and public awareness raising on the operations of the Crack Squad.

We live in a Society where actions of State Institutions are most times given political definition and coloring.

We need to celebrate the crack Squad as a new born baby, not to fear it.
