WAFU-B Experts Assessing Sierra Leone’s readiness to host 2023 Women’s U20 Tourney

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  After the Government of Sierra Leone Okayed the local football federation (SLFA) bid to host this year’s West Africa Football Union (WAFU) A-Zone Women’s U20 tournament, SLFA’s Head of Media and Marketing Ibrahim Kamara has told Multimedia Journalist Alusine Rehme Wilson that a team of experts are assessing the available facilities of the nation to host the zonal women’s championship. According to the SLFA spokesman, the team of experts will conduct a four-day assessment  in Bo and Kenema until this Friday.   While in the South and Eastern regional headquarter cities, the experts assessments focuses on checking facilities in stadiums and hotels to know whether they befit the status to let the West Africa football loving nation host the tournament on a date expected to be communicated later. By: alusinerehme.wilson@awokonewspaper.sl Journalist turned politician Mohamed Papa Bangura of Makeni city in the Bombali District, Northeastern Sierra Leone has said in an interview with Awoko Newspaper that “the people’s choice is the wave of God, I’ll be a grassroots Bombali Member of Parliament.” Bangura, a former reporter of Radio Maria, the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and Africa Young Voices (AYV) in Makeni was reacting to his latest success as one of the Bombali District Member of Parliament approved by the All People’s Congress National Advisory Committee (NAC) for the June 24 elections. Makeni: 10 Bombali District teams lined up for 1st round 2023-FA Cup race preliminary

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Two second division football teams namely Teddy and Urban FC and eight non division teams in Bombali District are set to race in the 2023-FA Cup preliminary round, in quest to earn the sole spot for the district. The race which will also includes the following non division football clubs namely: Biriwa Stars, Smart Foundation, Koromabo, Ada Jay, United Elite, Valley Contractors, TKBAR and qualifiers returnees AZ-Foundation, who had earlier pullout, will officially commence at 4:15pm local time today at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni where Korombo FC will lock horns with Valley Contractors in the first of five knockout games scheduled to complete the District’s first round preliminary. Daniel Thoranka becomes first visually impaired runner to race in the Street Child Marathon

​ By: alusinerehme.wilson@awokonewspaper.sl In its decade plus history, this year’s Street Child Marathon which happens to be the 11th Edition of the annual charity marathon jamboree hosted in Makeni city spotlights the unique participation of hundreds of local and international runners including Daniel Thoranka who made history as the first visually impaired runner to run the race. Running though villages, towns and forest in the northeastern regional district of Bombali like the visually paired runners was not a jolly ride for Daniel Thoronka but the presence of his guide Moses Sankoh racing along with him proved worthwhile. “I’m excited to have signed up and successfully run the annual charity marathon, specifically to inspire other visually impaired colleagues to follow suit,” he said. The Makeni based side had recovered from an early defeat to the Freetown victors whose skillful forward Abel Akwgbo put them forward just 13 minutes on.
