Former Chief of Staff Independence Message

Fellow Sierra Leoneans,

Today marks another milestone for the land that we love, Mama Salone. At 58, we celebrate a nation state that has transcended the challenges of conflict, disease and environmental disasters perpetuated by anthropogenic forces. We applaud a nation that has survived the destructive consequences of egocentrism, tribalism and regionalism, as in one voice we all strive to defend and fight for our rights.

The high points of this day will not be measured by an empty stadium, but by our general resolve to work in unison to make Sierra Leone a better place.

We inherited a country that is blessed with natural resources and immense human capital. Let  us therefore resolve to exploit this God-given potential for the common good of all Sierra Leoneans and those who sojourn amongst us.

Let us use our independence anniversary today to educate ourselves about how far we have progressed as a nation. Let us reflect, singularly and collectively, to determine how much we have contributed to the current state of Mama Salone. Let us resolve to improve our attitude to self and country by focusing on how we can make Sierra Leone a paradise on earth. Together, we can do it.

It is with this sense of possibility and patriotism that i join all and sundry to wish you all a happy and fulfilled 58th Anniversary celebration. Together we can make Sierra Leone the country we can all be proud of. A bastion of peace and stability. The Athens of West Africa. An epitome of unity and love.

Let us all shed off the ugly traits of tribalism and nepotism. Let us embrace each other in love, peace and unity.

God bless us all.
God bless the land that we so truly love, our beloved Sierra Leone.
