CSPHRS Frowns at the Attack on the Person of Mrs. Marcella Samba-Sesay

CSPHRS Press Release on the Attack on the Person of Mrs. Marcella Samba-Sesay.      
           
It has come to the attention of Center for Strategic, Peace and Human Rights Studies (CSPHRS) that a social media post attacking the personality of Mrs. Samba-Sesay of the Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) for expressing her views in a radio show program hosted by 98.1 Radio Democracy has received wide circulation.

We are concerned that no attempt has been made by the government and the SLPP to dissociate from such post.

The content of the post is not only primordial but also contradicts efforts by the SLPP led government of Sierra Leone to rebrand Sierra Leone and curb Gender and Sexual Based Violence.                           

One of the tenets of democracy is free speech and respect for the views of others. The initiator of the vile post may have deluded him/herself that the action was for a partisan self fulfillment, little realizing the damage the action may have caused his/her party.

We urge the SLPP led government, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, Women's organizations and the All Political Parties Association to condemn the attack against freedom of speech and particularly against a woman.

Disturbing snail space Civil works in the Makeni Central Lorry park

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy) The Makeni City Council (MCC) ordered commercial vehicles and business entities to leave the park area for the purpose of upgrading the park. Two weeks were given as the duration of the work. Regrettably, a week plus few days have elapsed with no significant work done. Drivers and business people in the park are completely frustrated and their livelihoods threatened.  Few years ago, drivers and traders were asked out of the park for similar reason but after two weeks they were asked to return to the park with no work done. This was disrespectful and insulting.  We urge MCC to double their efforts as the affected persons are running out of patience.
