The context of "bread and butter" in Sierra Leone

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy)
History was made today in the Tonkolili district Headquarter town of Magburaka. It was about a lauching but not just a lauching but a presidential lauching of a unique national microcredit scheme titled MUNAFA FUND.

The moment was great, significantly reassuring and a practical fulfilment of a Manifesto promise made by the president Bio while on his long and determined journey to the presidency.

In a neat package, 4100 business beneficiaries, mostly youth and women in all sixteen districts, will benefit from a designated fund of one hundred billion leones over a period of three years starting now.

The scheme Will be superintended by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Association (SMEDA) and run through established and reputable Financial Services Providers FSPs).

In his statement, JJ Saffa, the erudite, compelling and purposeful grasssroot Minister of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) explained to the thrilling audience that bread and butter abundantly mean:

1. Money in the pocket through defrayed cost of tuition fees, meals in schools, learning materials and bus service.

2. Salary increment across sectors in the public service.

3. Employment opportunities through recruitment of teachers, medics and security sector personnel.

The Minister added that the current microcredit scheme is the Most direct repredentation of bread and butter as raw cash will be pumped into the pockets of Sierra Leoneans in the informal business sector. This will not only quarantee livelihoods but has transformative Economic power.

Magburaka was a great Theatre of hope and fulfilment of a long standing dream of business recovery of a sector hitherto exploited by microcredit institutions largely unregulated in the country.

"Today, we feel the spirit of genuine leadership and the collective resolve of a government to free its people from the cruches of poverty", the paramount Chief of Kholifa Rowala intoned.
