​Northern Region Female Handball Team kickoff double header friendly in Masiaka today

The newly established Northern Region Female Handball team based in Makeni is set to face their Masiaka counterparts in Masiaka town today.

Today’s match is the first  of two friendly meetings schedule for Thursday, 21st July, 2022 and Sunday, 24th July, 2022 respectively.

According to the organizers, the Masiaka Female Handball Team face their Northern region counterparts three days later when they shall travel to the Northeastern region city of Makeni for the return-leg.

President of the Northern Region Female Handball team Michaella Zainab Komeh says, the friendly is organized for the purpose of introducing the sports in the region as well as to test the players and evaluate their performances to see how far they have improved from the training skills they've so far received from their coaches.


Handball is among the 49 registered sporting disciplines in Sierra Leone. 

It is a team sport played by two teams featuring seven players each who passes the ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. 


A standard handball match consists of two half's known as periods lasting for 30 minutes each and the team that scores more goals becomes the winner.
