The journey of aspiring female broadcaster Dorcas Annie Koroma at the University of Makeni (UniMak) in the Mass Communications Department is an inspirational blend of academia and modeling.
Known as "Queen D", Koroma has impressed her colleagues with her seamless combination of academic and modeling pursuits. She attributes her success to her commitment and dedication to both fields.
Koroma's accomplishments in modeling have been noteworthy. In 2013, she won the Miss Murray Town contest, marking the beginning of her rise to prominence. She later achieved even greater success by winning the Miss Africa title in 2015 and, more recently, the Miss Makeni Model Union crown.
Despite her achievements in the modeling world, Koroma remains focused on her academic journey. In a Tuesday evening interview with AWE-Media.SL, after her tour to the Fatima and Yoni campuses of UniMak, she revealed her “vision is to become one of Sierra Leone's finest female broadcasters upon graduating next year,” reiterating her determination to break stereotypes in the modeling industry is evident in her latest decision to compete for the 2024 Miss UniMak crown.
In line with her aspiration, Koroma and her team are already visiting campuses in Makeni to gather support and share her vision of transforming the perception of modeling as a career only for dropouts. With her influential presence and future as a broadcaster, she aims to redefine the academic-modeling blend.
While her dedication and commitment to both fields have propelled her to success, and she aims to make a significant impact in the modeling industry while pursuing her career as a broadcaster, she has called for more support from her colleagues and the public to join her embark on an inspiring journey that combines her academic pursuits with her modeling aspirations.
