Outcry arises as NERFA reveals Division One League Semifinals Fixtures

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Amidst eager anticipation from supporters, players, and officials, the North East Region Football Association (NERFA) finally unveiled the highly anticipated fixtures for the semi finalists of the First Division League.

Although the fixture announcement brought a sense of excitement and drama, there's public outcry as the top two teams from each zone A and B have been drawn to face off in a double-header to secure their spots in the national first division playoff.

This NERFA playoff would also determine the qualifiers for the upcoming season of the Sierra Leone Premier League.

The leaders of Zone-A, Bombali Sebora of Makeni, and the second-place team, Golden Dragons Football Club of Magburaka, a former Sierra Leone Premier League side are scheduled to clash on June 28 and July 10.

Meanwhile, in Zone-B, Kabala City from Koinadugu District would go head-to-head against Smart Foundation Football Club of Bombali District on the same dates, as the teams battled it out for a chance to advance to the final showdown.

The unveiling of the fixtures sparked some debate within the football community in the Northeast region, with accusations of bias towards certain teams.

However, Milton Koroma, the Head of Competition at NERFA, dismissed these claims, stating that they were simply enforcing the established rules and regulations of the competition.

He further urged members of the football family to support their teams passionately and uphold the spirit of fair play and respect for the game in the region and beyond.
