As the U-20 national football team prepares to embark on their journey for the upcoming WAFU Zone A tournament, Head Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara expressed his confidence in the team’s readiness following an intensive two and a half months of training.

The squad, consisting of 20 players—15 home-based and 5 foreign-based—has shown remarkable progress and cohesion.

In an interview, Coach ML shared his thoughts on the team’s preparation and the upcoming challenges. “The past two and a half months have been incredibly demanding but the players have responded with great determination and hard work,” he said. “We have focused on building a strong tactical foundation improving physical fitness and fostering team spirit.”

The training camp included rigorous daily sessions, friendly matches, and specialized workout aimed at enhancing both individual skills and team dynamics. “Our home-based players have shown tremendous growth and the integration of our foreign-based players has added a valuable dimension to the squad,” Coach Kamara noted.

He highlighted the importance of the diverse backgrounds of the players. “Having a mix of home-based and foreign-based players brings different experiences and styles of play which enriches our overall strategy. The synergy between these groups has been fantastic.”

The U-20 local tactician also emphasized the mental preparation of the team. “We’ve worked not only on physical and tactical aspects but also on mental resilience. The players are mentally prepared to face the pressures of the tournament.”

As the team prepares to travel, Coach ML expressed his optimism about their prospects. “I believe in this group of players. They have shown great commitment and have developed a strong bond. We are ready to compete and make our nation proud.”

The squad will depart for Monrovia, Liberia on Friday, 16th September carrying the hopes and expectations of this country. “We promise to give our best and represent Sierra Leone with honour,” the gaffer concluded.

With the blend of home-grown talent and international experience the U-20 national team is ready to showcase their skills on the subconfederational stage. The journey ahead is challenging but with the preparation and unity they have built, the team is ready to deliver.
