The war within: APC in a strategic political dilemma

By: Ibrahim Jalloh – (Jallomy)
Since the party lost power in 2018 after a seemingly indecisive general elections, APC has been embroiled in repeated and at close succession, conflict of leadership and the overall compelling and urgent need for internal reforms.

The National Reformation Movement (NRM) was the first organized, coordinated and determined body to openly and professionally challenge the leadership of the APC to submit to the incessant call for internal democratic reforms.

The NRM's call was sustained and thunderous to the extent of lowering the political pride and arrogance of the core leadership of the APC. There was recapitulation and the NRM enjoyed momentary heroic stature.

The outcome of the NRM High Court decision (the Injunction) brought the crusade to climax. Instead of settling for the reality of political defeat and accept political compromise and integration of major reforms proposed, the practically "smart" APC leadership has resorted to an unfortunate dismantling of the cohesiveness of NRM with initial success.

We witnessed the classic split in the NRM and unpardonable betrayal of the likes of Minkailu Koroma. The ensuing Communique between NRM one and two and APC was devoid of sincerity of purpose but loaded with deceit and antics of unimaginable scale. It never worked! The Czar of APC has an over mastery urge to lead and at all cost.

Today, we have heard and read of a new Injunction slammed by the High Court of Sierra Leone as brought forward by a thorough member of the APC in the diaspora. What this Injunction has done is reversal of the plans and efforts of the APC leadership to proceed. It is a festering wound and the indicators of mass political Exodus is poignantly eminent. Let my people go!

The legitimacy of the current APC leadership is questioned and questionable. It sounds not to have constitutional authority to president over major events and election of new officials.

This is not only a crossroads situation but one that has put the APC in strategic dilemma and potentially opening the floodgate for internal dissent.

Much wrong has taken place in the APC. By all indicators, APC is a party in bondage and held hostage by a few desperate and uncompromising generations of self-seeking leaders.

The war within the APC is growing and will grow.
