SiLNoRF LUNCHES BETTER LIVELIHOOD PROJECT IN MAKENI

The Sierra Leone Network on the Right to Food on Wednesday 10th March 2021 lunched the anticipated food project title Better Livelihood for Addax/Sunbird/Brown Company communities.

The lunching was held at the Pastoral Center in Makeni with key representatives from farming groups, Government agencies, CSOs, paramount chiefs and other prominent stakeholders who wholeheartedly graced the event.

According to Mohamed Sorie Conteh, National Coordinator for SiLNoRF said, the event symbolizes a recovered livelihood for people in Addax/Sunbird/Brown affected communities.

Presenting the Project, SiLNoRF Head of Programmes-Lasana Hassan Sowa emphasized the importance and effectiveness of the project and advised beneficiaries to knob it with care. 


He went further to pronounced the sum of One Million Five Hundred euro as the overall money allocated for the project which will last for a period of three years. ‘’the money will cover costs for land preparation, seeds, tools, tricycles, construction of wells for safe water, construction of ABCs centers and dry floors.” He assured.

He added that 925 farmers from 37 Addax/Sunbird/Brown Company affected communities in Mara chiefdom, Bombali Shebora Chiefdom and Makari Chiefdom are to be considered as direct beneficiaries of the golden project.

Speaking on behalf of the Affected Land Owners and Users Association (AFLOUA), Abu Bakarr Kanu expressed a maximum amount of appreciation over the good work of SiLNoRF in transforming the lives of people in his community and for saving them from being dependent and wretched conditions to enhanced livelihood.

The country Director at Welt Hunger Highlife, Lanka, disclosed that 75% of the total money for the project is provided by the Germany Government while the remaining 25% is offed by her Organization.

She further advised and encouraged beneficiaries to take ownership of such helpful development to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in their respective communities.

She pointed out that “hunger and Malnutrition can lead the slow development of a country.”

The Paramount Chief of Mara Chiefdom, PC Bai Bairoh extend his appreciation to SiLNoRF and partners for providing such a laudable support to his chiefdom including neighboring chiefdoms, and he further pronounced his commitment in ensuring a successful  implementation of the project.

On behalf of his colleagues Paramount Chief, PC Bai Bairoh lunched the three years Better Livelihood Project with an understanding to support the successful implementation of the project within their respective chiefdom. .
