Deputy Minister, MBSSE Opens CPSS Conference in Makeni

On Wednesday, 4th May, 2022, the Deputy Minister-I of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education Emily Kadiatu Gogra officially opened the Conference of Secondary Schools Principals-(CPSS) at the old Makeni town hall in Bombali District, Northern-Sierra Leone.

In her statement, the deputy Minister extends greetings on behalf of the Minister to stakeholders and all present at the meeting, applauded the Teachers for their services to the nation.

Says “MBSSE deeply appreciates and values their relentless efforts in the teaching and learning processes nationwide.

She further appealed to the Principles conference to serve as emissaries in their respective schools to enhancing the teaching and learning processes pleaded to them to talk to their respective teachers to continue to trust the new direction government in our course to enhancing free and quality education nationwide.

“Please allow the pupils to write to the National Primary School Exams-(NPSE) on Saturday, we’re a listening government and we’ve heard all your requests, this is why we’re still in constant touch with the related teachers groups trying to negotiate and arrive an amicable conclusion soonest, she further remarked.


In response the Conference of Principals for Secondary Schools membership sang the National pledged of Sierra Leone together in the hall and pledged to further engage their respective teachers in their schools to turn up for the NPSE exams on Saturday, 7th May, 2022.

Amid Umar Fornah, the CPSS Northeast Region Chairperson told Journalists that they as administrators of secondary schools nationwide, “are ready to conduct the exams with hopes high that Teachers will return to schools.”

He reminisced “CPSS has been constantly engaging Teachers, Government as well as other representatives of the education sector on the demands from teachers for improved conditions of services.”

And discloses that, “among other things they’ll be discussing at the conference will borders around issues regarding public examinations, teachers welfare, Late payment of subsides, school infrastructural challenges and in the develop a position paper for the attention of Government.”

“CPSS acknowledges the multiple Professional development trainings from the Government of Sierra Leone through its partners, Leh Wi Learn and the Teaching Service Commission this is why we’re committed to continually engage teachers to ensuring that the NPSE exams commences on Saturday.

“We are also calling on Parents to join the  advocacy for improved conditions of services for Teachers  because Teachers are also part of the community and developers of children, concluded with a clearing call to parents to monitor their children for more focus on their studies for the upcoming NPSE exams.”


The conference theme is: “Promoting continuity and sustainability of the Free Quality Education through community ownership.”

Meanwhile, the meeting which will end on Thursday, 5th May, 2022 is the first since it was last held in Kenema before the pandemic induced hiatus.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District
