MBSSE Deputy Minister-1: What's happening is a skirmish, we'll amicably resolve and not a strike

Mrs. Emily Kadiatu Gogra  the Deputy Minister-1 of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education-(MBSSE) say the underlying protest by Teachers is a skirmish they'll amicably resolve and not a strike.

She explained to Journalists in Makeni that: "what's happening with Teachers is a skirmish we'll amicably resolve and it's not a strike because our government takes pride as the best ever that hold teachers to a very high esteem as valuable partners influencing the betterment of education in our country.”


Continued that, Government has made visible their commitments to transform education in Sierra Leone through the introduction of the Free Quality Education Program that has ensured the return of many citizens especially children to schools .


“The fruits of our impressive work in the country’s education sector are gradually showing from the recent performances of our pupils at public Examinations this is why the ministry is working round the clock to amicably resolve the ongoing skirmish,” she further explained.


The Deputy Minister-1 adds that, “they've heard all the concerns being raised by the various Teachers groups, assures to do their best to continue to positively transform the Teaching profession in the country.”


She also reminisced that, a number of positive achievements has taken place in the educational sector for Teachers since the new direction government was voted for. "We now have more females as school principals, made the once acting principals to substantiative, added 30% on Teacher Salaries, made the Teaching Service Commission functional, dolled out Teachers professional trainings, approved over 1000 Teachers plus several schools nationwide."


Mrs. Gogra concludes with a blanket plea to all Teachers to return to schools and continue to teach for the good of the nation and reassures of very attractive outcome in the not too distant future.
