SLAJEC Announce New Date for SLAJ Election

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Electoral Commission-(SLAJEC) has on Monday, May 30 announced June Saturday, June 18, 2022 as the new date for the anticipated Journalists Elections.

The initially host venue, Makeni city remains unchanged but the commission also announced new dates: Friday, 10 June for the puplication of the final list of eligible voters of the SLAJ Elections, 10th to 14th June as the Memebership petition window and Thursday, 16th June, 2022 for the publication of final votes register.

Although, SLAJEC did not disclosed in their release the reasons for revising the elections timetable but Awoko Newspaper have learned from SLAJ Secretariat that, “the decision to postponed the elections for two weeks from the initial June 4 date was taken by the SLAJ membership at a general meeting held on Monday at its Campbell Street Headquarters in Freetown due to financial constraints and the Executive has been requested to prepare a realistic budget in line with the total number of members who have paid their members dues, delegates fees and revised accommodation fee.”
