As Police releases Journalist Sorie Saio Sesay on bail, SLAJ North Revoked “News Blackout”

Following Police release of Journalist Sorie Saio SESAY on bail on Monday, 31st May, 2022, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalist Northern Region Branch has confirmed the revoked of an earlier indefinite News Blackout ban place on the activities of the Sierra Leone Police.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Regional Chairman of SLAJ North Sahr James Bangah who extends strong satisfaction of the region’s Executive to Media institutions and Journalists in the North for their solidarity support in adhering to the News Blackout call on the activities of the Sierra Leone Police as part of their solidarity drive and Press Freedom march to secure the release of their colleague.

“Now that Sorie Saio SESAY has been released and with reference to our memorandum of understanding with the Sierra  Leone Police, I therefore declare the “News Blackout” is immediately lifted and our good working relationship continues with the SLP,” he further stated in the Tuesday release.

The revoking of the News Blackout ban placed on the activities of the Sierra Leone Police by SLAJ North arrives 84 hours after they(Journalists) expressed great concerns about the health and wellbeing of their colleague Sorie Saio Sesay of Okentuhun Radio FM 94.0 in Kamakwie who was arrested on Thursday, May 26 by the Sierra Leone Police over allegations of “publishing false information” on a WhatsApp group about a standoff between the police and commercial bike riders that happened earlier on the same date.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District
