Gas Stations in Makeni city have since resolved to selling petrol to the public on rotational order leading to artificial scarcity of petrol which has caused hike in commodities, transportation as well as the petrol being hulled by black marketers who bow sells a liter of petrol between the sums of Le 25,000 to Le 30,000. It’s such misnomer that has ignited an unannounced inspection of various gas stations in the city of Makeni by the Resident Minister of the Northeast region Abu Abu Abdulai Koroma, representatives of the trade ministry, the Senior District Officer of Bombali and security personnel. Today’s morning unannounced inspection that was conducted at various gas stations according to the North-East region Resident Minister Abu Abu Abdulai Koroma “is to ascertain whether the said stations have abundant petrol in their stations but have only chosen to cause artificial scarcity. I together with other stakeholders have toured a number of the gas stations and observed that there is petrol available and we did order gas station owners to promptly sell the petrol to the public and I must say their compliance has been worthwhile.
“What I and other stakeholders are doing is inspired by the vision of His Excellency Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio who is against corruption and cares for every Sierra Leonean and petrol is one of the widely used commodity and must not be made scarce when its available by anyone, we will not tolerate that and are fully against that as an administration you all have bestowed trusts upon to offering the best for the general good,” he underscored. Malador’s sole station in Makeni, all National Petrol-(NP) stations in the northern region economic city were among the gas stations inspected by the North East Region Resident Minister.
The day’s move by the Resident Minster and other key stakeholder in Bombali District has been lauded by residents in Makeni mostly Bike riders but its seems his move’s impacts are being cut shot as most gas stations have also stop the selling of petrol while black marketers still sells petrol at Le 25,000 to Le 30,000 per litter, at the same time commodity and transportation prices remain in the increase in Makeni and its surroundings.
