Sierra Leone's Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Faiya Sellu, has described the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Brass Band as a lasting source of national pride, as the force unveiled its newly acquired regimental brass band instruments in Freetown.
Speaking on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Police Kingdom Mess, while delivering the keynote address at a brief but symbolic unveiling ceremony, IGP Sellu described the moment as "a historic milestone in the development of the Sierra Leone Police."
He said it was a personal honour to unveil the new instruments, noting that the Sierra Leone Police Brass Band had for many years operated with outdated and inadequate equipment.
The police boss went on to describe the investment in the brass band as a bold and strategic decision, particularly at a time when the police force faces competing demands and multiple development priorities.
“Despite the many pressing needs confronting the institution, the decision to procure a new regimental brass band reflects our commitment to professionalism, morale-building and national representation,” IGP Sellu said.
He encouraged police personnel to seize every opportunity to drive positive change wherever they serve, urging members of the brass band to use the new instruments responsibly and with a strong sense of teamwork, which he identified as essential to institutional progress.
In concluding his remarks, the IGP challenged band members to perform music that is pleasant, professional and uplifting, while stressing the importance of continuous training and mentorship to strengthen capacity and sustain high standards within the band.
Under the leadership of IGP William Faiya Sellu, the Sierra Leone Police continues to pursue initiatives aimed at professionalism, public engagement and national pride.
However, the unveiling of the new regimental brass band aligns with the Government of Sierra Leone’s broader reform agenda to transform the police from a traditional security force into a modern, service-oriented institution.
