Sierra Leonean Girls Redeemed

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy)

Sierra Leone is suffering from a moral decline. The war came and went. Post war resettlement and rehabilitation priorities were vigorously pursued. We saw the disarmament and demobilization of combatants but what we never saw was the moral rearmament of our society.

Sierra leonean girls were never spared the atrocities of the moral decay of our time. Sex related abuses of all types and kinds were the daily and frequent realities face by our girls. Efforts in the past to stem the tide sexual offences were paralyzed by uncoordinated actions and complete lack of the political will to redress the sexual aggression.

The First lady of the republic, madam Fatima Bio, has taken action fuelled by the strongest political will in the history of sierra Leone to arrest a menace that will destroy our girls, the seeds of time and the investment of tomorrow. National hope for a great future will be diminished if our girls are left in the quadrangle of moral decay.

October 11 will be a momentous day in the history of sierra Leone. This is the most significant investment in the future of our girls in Sierra Leone.

The choice of Makeni for the first session of the launch is of symbolic character. Among other considerations, the choice of first venue concretizes the national character of the program and the national appeal to all to support and uphold the program. Apparently, the spirit of the national call to reverse the broken fortunes of the country is slowing flowing in the Psyche of the local leaders in the opposition heartlands. The overwhelming support of the local leaders for the Hands Off Our Girls Program is in itself a liberation and a very revealing indicator of the disappearance of the culture of resistance and political denial.

A government that is poised to invest in human capital and protect the most productive sector of our society has a place for reckoning.

Madam Bio is phenomenal and has a great appetite for national development with less complacency in ensconcing in the cozy palace of the presidency.

The sexual offences Act is a legal milestone. However, we need to go beyond the law to drum awareness on the evil nature of the crime.
