Today in Kono, National Football Icons, others to grace Sports for Empowerment Foundation Youth Finals

The long walk that started on 10th July this year in the eastern regional city of Kono between 351 young footballers representing over 20, U12 and U14 Boys teams in the diamond rich district will climax today at the Kono Stadium before national football icons, sports administrators, government officials, pressmen among others.

With the bronze owners of both categories of the twin youthful football contests organized by the Sports for Empowerment Foundation-(SFEF) in collaboration with the Kono District Football Association under the  theme ”Creating better people through the use of Education and Sports," already known,  all four finalists of both categories will be showing off their skills to win the prestigious U12  and U14 giant championships this Sunday.

Legendary Football Administrator, former Sierra Leone skipper and Inter Millan Forward Mohamed Kallon, his elder brotherMusa Kallon, the Minister of Sports, SLFA President, fromer SLFA Scribe Alimu Bah among others are expected to grace the grand finals today which will see Golden Rangers  and City Strikers who defeated Sierra Rangers and JC Sports 5-4 and 1-0 in the semi-finals facing off each other in the U-14 grand finals while Sierra Rangers and Golden Soccer will battle for the U12 championship.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified.
