Sierra Leone battles Tripartite Infodemic

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Eleven years since David Rothkopf coined the term Infodemic, Sierra Leone has since 2014 during the Ebola outbreak been battling to overcome banes of mis and dis-information. The struggles of Infodemic in Sierra Leone led to the widespread inaccurate information about the deadly Ebola virus as well as the COVID-19  pandemic leading to the loss of 100 of Sierra Leoneans between 2014 to 2022. As if that was not enough, the West African nation would go on to experience an alarming rate of fake News, mis and dis-information about politics and a wide range of issues through social media platforms primarily Facebook and WhatsApp leading to bloody combats between civilians and police. Wusum Stars Coach Lamin Kamara refutes accusations of breaching contract terms

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara Mohamed Lamin Kamara, the Head coach of the Makeni-based soccer team Wusum Stars has vehemently denied the accusations of contract breaches made against him by the club's management. His response came after the June 15, announcement by Wusum Stars management stating that Kamara was suspended from his coaching duties pending an investigation into alleged contract violations.  The club claimed that Kamara had signed a new contract with another top-tier team while still having several games left to coach with Wusum Stars in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League.  In a recent interview with AWE-Media Sierra Leone, Kamara contested the club's allegations, expressing his disappointment with the decision to suspend him based on mere rumors.  He insisted that he is a professional who has not breached any contracts and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation process, and has challenged the Wusum Stars management...

Freetown to Experience Temporal Power Outages

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has declared that starting today, there will be power shortages in Freetown until Thursday, June 20.  The outages are expected to last for six hours each day, from 9:00 AM till 2:00 PM local time, between Tuesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 20, as stated in a public notice released on Monday by EDSA.   In the release, EDSA explained that the power cuts are necessary to facilitate the seamless extension and installation of the transfer bus for the newly installed 40MVA Power Transformer at the Freetown 161 substation.  Furthermore, the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority also revealed that they have coordinated with the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC)/Salini and Karpowership to temporarily disconnect their supply connection to the Transfer Bus during the specified dates and times.  However, EDSA expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the situation and assured cus...

Outcry arises as NERFA reveals Division One League Semifinals Fixtures

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Amidst eager anticipation from supporters, players, and officials, the North East Region Football Association (NERFA) finally unveiled the highly anticipated fixtures for the semi finalists of the First Division League.   Although the fixture announcement brought a sense of excitement and drama, there's public outcry as the top two teams from each zone A and B have been drawn to face off in a double-header to secure their spots in the national first division playoff.  This NERFA playoff would also determine the qualifiers for the upcoming season of the Sierra Leone Premier League. Experienced Curtis Davis impressed in his Sierra Leone debut as Karim's Men narrowly defeated Djibouti

Goals from 39-year-old Curtis Davis and 24-year-old Augustus Kargbo secured a historic 2-1 victory for the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone  over Djibouti in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. Davis, who was born in England but recently received clearance to represent Sierra Leone, made his debut for the national team under coach Amidu Karim during a match day-3 match held the El-Abdi stadium in Morocco on Wednesday evening. The experienced Davis wasted no time in making an impact by scoring the opening goal in the 12th minute, courtesy of a brilliant assist from Emmanuel Samadia.
