Bombali Shebora’s hopes of winning the NERFA Super-10 unbeaten end with defeat against Ocean Boys

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

With barely six more games left for each of the nine participating teams to complete the ongoing North East Region Football Association’s maiden Men’s Super-10 championship, the time was ripe to determine whether current league leaders Bombali Shebora FC’s unbeaten.

But the Makeni based high flying side has failed to beat their Ocean Boys FC’s counterparts twice this season to win the much trumpeted first ever NERFA Men’s Super-10 Championship, after bowing 1-0 last Sunday at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni.

The defeat was after Shebora’s 1-1 draw with Yoni Shooting Stars who currently sits second behind them and the win was the first for “the Blue and White Boys” who had successively lost 3-1 to Dogoloya and Makelleh Football Clubs their clash with current league leaders saw them seek revenge of their 1-0 defeat they had suffered in the first round of the tournament.

Forward Santigie Kamara netted the vital goal which turned out to be the sole in the encounter 79 minutes on to put Coach Aza’s Boys in front of the high-flying Shebora FC.

The win Ocean Boy’s seventh in 12  league matches after losing five times overall and now sits 4th on the log with 21 points  behind Conteh-U and Yoni Shooting Stars Football Clubs while Shebora FC’s remains top of the table with 36 points despite the defeat which has only dashed their hopes of winning this season’s first-ever NERFA Men’s Super-10 championships unbeaten.

According to the Sierra Leone Football Association’s competitions department, the ongoing regional championship will determine the teams to progress into the National 1st division playoff to qualify for the 2023-Sierra Leone Premier League.
