SLAJ President confirms 1Billion Leones receipt of GoSL Subvention

Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, the incumbent President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists-(SLAJ) has confirmed receipt of the sum of One Billion Leones-(Le 1,000,000,000) from the Ministry of Finance as payment of Government subvention for two years-(2021 and 2022).

President Nasralla made the disclosure yesterday while delivering a speech at SLAJ's 2022-Triennial General Meeting opening ceremony which was hosted at the University of Makeni Auditorium Hall in Makeni city, Bombali District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone.

"I can now confirmed that SLAJ have received the sum of One Billion Leones - (Le 1,000,000,000) from the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance as payment of Government's subvention to SLAJ for two years, last year and this year although the Ministry of Information and Communication had hurriedly announced the payment even before we acknowledged receipt, we're however thankful to the Government of Sierra Leone for fulfilling their promise of supporting the media but pressingly continue to urge the government to ensure Press Freedom as we together with partners continue to make advances for an economically viable and independent media in Sierra Leone."
