By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Sahid Conteh-U Football Club’s Skipper and Forward Mohamed Koroma was the hero at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni on Thursday evening as his lone goal helped his team to beat Real Republican 1-0 in the 1st Division Playoffs.

It’s the Makeni based club first victory after losing 2-3 to Freetown FC and sharing the spoils in a goalless encounter with Rutile Rangers on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

The victory means, Sahid Conteh-U are now 2nd with 4 points, one point behind Freetown FC after three matches in Group-A but 3rd place Real Republicans FC Head Coach Mohamed ‘Cash’ Jabbie says “all is not lost for his team despite the latest defeat.

“We’re 3rd with 4points and still have an important game ahead on Saturday against Rutile Rangers. It’s a must win for us and we’re determined as a team to collect all 3 points from that match to progress to the semifinals and duly pick up our ticket to next season’s National Premier League,” he added.

In the other group-A match Freetown FC and Rutile Rangers shared the spoils in a goalless game. It was the same situation elsewhere in Kenema where Bombali Sebora and Lauwa FC also shared the spoils but Edmond Michael Foundation FC were beaten 2-3 by Lamboi in the other group-B encounter.

With the current groups standings fancying qualification hopes for all 10 participating clubs, the outcome of today’s matches in Makeni and Kenema between Great Scarcies and Freetown FC as well as Edmond Michael Foundation and Gulf FC will determine the top two potential teams from each groups that will pick their tickets to the qualifier’s next stage.
