The Poet of this Poem, Abu Bakarr Kamara who is popularly called Dr. Love the Phoenix is currently a third year student at the Fourah Bay College of Sierra Leone studying Physic and Engineering. His love for poetry started way back in his early school days and he has over the years been engaged on his poetic work alongside laying premium to his academic work.

This poem according to literary assessments by Linguist and other critics will certainly be the gateway to a very brighter breakthrough of his poetic work nationally and internationally, as he is all set for the very first time to publish a Poem of his to be released with an audio soonest.

According to the Poet, Abu Bakarr Kamara (Dr. Love the Phoenix), “Bleeding Nation” is his own gift to fellow and non countrymen on the 58th Independence of his motherland Sierra Leone he said.

In an undivided interview with this writer, further describes and talks more about “Bleeding Nation” in the following three paragraphs:

“This is certainly a heartrending poem that reflects a message of dismay, as well as, eulogizing patriotic citizens. It is like a citizen’s dirge as a result of selfish men in society. It all came about from the cries of the common people whose strive to make ends meet get difficult day by day. And as a writer, I focus on why all these.”

“There erupts thoughts of men who when they want power, they come humble to the ordinary citizen's doorstep. As soon as they consolidate the power, they restrict themselves from those people who put them their. And this is not only applicable to Politicians but even to people in offices that suppose to help others. As a whole, the "Nation Bleeds" because it's citizens can't feel the pains of each other. Everyone cares for their own good, and have little to do with another's suffering.”

“The poem would capture people's attention. It portrays the issues that people encounter in their lives as they helplessly watch their wealth being stolen by greedy politicians and other officials in various institutions. It is a good reminder to bring awareness to the masses.”

Below is the poem’s first stanza ahead of the official release date. The whole poem will be available on major digital platforms on Saturday, 27th April, 2019.

POEM TITLE: : “BLEEDING NATION”
BY: ABU BAKARR KAMARA (Dr. Love the Phoenix)
A nation bleeding
Fifty-eight years old, still creeping
Drench in selfishness, could do nothing to prevent
Bribery and self-interest our daily occurrences
As if there are no more events
Forsaken at the clutches of death
Countrymen busy accumulating wealth

  1. *MY TAKE ON THE POEM TITLE: BLEEDING NATION...*

    Kemoh Saidu Sesay

I am a skeptic to many in relation to their works because of my zest to see good thing but Mr Kamara has shattered that skepticism by putting out such a wonderful and neatly organised poem.
His enthusiasm to express himself by literary work is a force to reckon. His use of unfamiliar dictions has enriched the vocabularies of many learners.

Bleeding Nation is one of his many works I am privileged to have exposed to and acquire wealth of knowledge.

The poem Bleeding Nation has a mood of anger, sorrow and hope for a better tomorrow. His made us to know the variables that have impeded the success of this Nation..." A Bleeding Nation fifty-eight years old, still creeping Drenched in *selfishness* , could do nothing to prevent *Bribery* and *Self-interest* our daily occurrences." The first stanza tells you the status quo of Sierra Leone. A message of hope and despair runs throughout the poem.

Again, he wasted no time to expose the techniques used by politicians to acquire political power. Politicians are full with sugar-coated promises in their dying zest for political power. They appeared humble like a dove in their pursiut of power but once voted in, they become deaf and blind to our problems. They begin to enrich themselves at the expense of the poor citizens. Umeh describes them as *"patriots in reverse order"* in his poem Ambassadors of Poverty. This is Sierra Leone and it politicians. Our politicians are corrupt and selfish as we are made to understand by the poet.

The poet feel in a bucket of shame because his country's honour is at stake considering the silence of brave minds.

With no hesitation, he assured us of more sufferings if we remain unconcerned. His rhetorical questions reaffirms his state of pessimism. Politicians cannot ameliorate our current state rather they relegate themselves to vampires sucking our prosperity like bed bug.

He became relaxed on politicians and went on to question the patriotic actions of citizens. What have we done for Sierra Leone to be a better home? He encouraged us all to do some sacrifice towards the state because for him whatever single input may serve a purpose.

He ordered us all to renege from political games and squandering, so we can deliver the best for the nation.

With solemn voice he relate to us that our country is tired of *poverty* , *corruption* , *selfishness* , and so on. He requested for a change to all those vices.

The poet climaxed by saluting patriotic citizens whose patriotism can allow them to put their lives in the line of death.

A beautiful independent poem...I enjoyed reading it. *Indeed Sierra Leone is a Bleeding Nation.*
