❗️The mobile water shops: a lost revenue outlet ❗An Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy's) Commentary...

The sale of filtered and packaged water in the city of Makeni is a resounding business with serious margin of profit and profitability.

The suppliers or perhaps wholesalers operate on a mobile market system.

They will park the trucks loaded with water at vantage points in the city to do their sales. In essence, it is a mobile logistics and storage system.

Regrettably, they are not being taxed by council. Why this is so is difficult to understand. So, I am calling on MCC to immediately institute a tax regime for this category.

The culture of tax is in disdain in Sierra Leone. This dates to the days of Bai Bureh. In the days of Bai Bureh, the resistance to pay was on account of the folly of a man paying tax for the hut he builds without external or governmental support.

Present day resistance is on account of the limited utilization of tax revenue and the massive corruption in the state.
