Ministry of Labour Engages Bombali Stakeholders on National Employment Policy

In their quest to Improve and Promote an Inclusive Job-Rich Growth through Productive Employment and Decent Work, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and its partners has ended a day’s dialogue meeting with stakeholders of Bombali District and other parts of the Northern Region on the National Employment Policy.

The one day engagement which was hosted at the Sahara Hotel in the Makeni City, Bombali District, Northern Province of Sierra Leone was chaired by the Regional Coordinator North of the National Youth Commission (NYC), Sulaiman Sillah.

In his opening remarks, chairman Sillah welcomed all to Makeni City on behalf of NYC, and assured them of a fruitful deliberations on very important topics to positively pave the way for a reviewed national employment policy that will curb the issue of unemployment in the country.

He then invited several dignitaries and representatives from various sectors that are working with Youths in this part of the country, they all spoke well, and made relevant suggestions and recommendations to be looked into by the Labour Ministry in reviewing the National Employment Policy.

The key note speaker at the meeting was the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security in the Republic of Sierra Leone. Delivering the key note speech, the Honorable Minister thanked all attendees for making it to the meeting which he said forms part of the review process of the country’s new National Employment Policy.

He further said that there have been a National Employment Policy for Sierra Leone that was drafted for (2015-2018) with support from the Government of Sierra Leone and other partners of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

"The policy was however vital but its lifespan has elapsed which has ignited for this review.

“In this review, the Ministry, its partners and you all here will be putting together cogent ideas for a more robust National Employment Policy that will match up with global standards for ensuing sustainable employments for sustainable developments in the country” said the Minister of Labour and Social Security.

He urged participants of the day’s event to contribute their best of knowledge and ideas for the ministry to add to the document.

Several comments, questions and imputes were made at the event by different participants and group presentations were also presented to the review group of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
