Activating the Makeni City planning: the UNIMAK/San Pablo partnership

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy)👍

The partnership took life in July 10, 2010 between the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) and the CEU San Pablo University in Madrib, Spain. In his ever burning desire to see the sustainable urban planning of Makeni City, Rev. Fr. Joseph Alimamy Turay who is the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAK created a professional link between the Makeni City Council and CEU San Pablo.

The relationship went on well and a masterpiece urban plan was designed and commissioned on January 16, 2014.

The commissioning ceremony was electrifying and rekindled hitherto abandoned hope.

But since six years ago, the plan has been comfortably housed in a dark cabinet in Council. No explanation, no update, no action, no direction.

We may need an explanation from Council. If there are legitimate barriers, we can all support our Council.

The urban planning of Makeni city has been compromised several years back. This was due to the chronic inaction of the regional planning unit of the Ministry of Lands.

Today, the architectural design and planning of this seemingly predatory city is screwed up and in utter disdain.

So the San Pablo planning intervention was going to be a succor but it appears we are held back by a seemingly irreversible mindset.
