The London Burgees Park gathering: a tourism of ignorance

The London Burgees Park gathering of a sample of Sierra Leoneans in the foreign land is nothing more than a classic demonstration of the tourism of ignorance.

It is not only worrying but equally disturbing to see monumental efforts by a group of people supposedly exposed and informed to betray such callous ignorance on developments back home.

Our problems back home are noticeable but not exceptional to the prevalent governance challenges across the world.

While we note the absolute need to support government efforts at resolving those problems, we strongly believe that a touristic approach in solving our problems is not desirable. Regrettably, this is misdirected energy! Cash and time resources directed at this ignorance tourism are typical excellent waste.

We pride on and value locally generated and applied solutions to our problems.

Sierra Leoneans back home understand and appreciate the changing political and economic dynamics. Any deliberate and intentional efforts at distracting the national drive to reversing the political and economic fortunes of our country will be dismissed as laughable ignorance as demonstrated by few of our brothers and sisters at Burgees Park in London today.

The colossal irony is our brothers and sisters are sending a message that is in contradiction to what their host government and people have. The British government and people are significant development partners in our national efforts to reverse the awkward political and economic trends engineerd by the very patrons of the ignorant tourists at Burgees Park.

We acknowledge the tremendous support from our brothers and sisters in the diaspora in the form of cash remittances and other in - kind support services but we will not appreciate a gothic presentation of our governance image and character in foreign lands.

What is happening at the moment at Burgees Park is a complete misrepresentation of events back home. Sadly, it is a brutal indictment of a group of Sierra Leoneans who do not believe in their identities and collective national character and have resorted to betraying that which defines them. In the fullness of time, they would realise the folly of their action.

The Burgees Park touristic gathering by a group of ignorant Sierra Leoneans is a complete stillborn! Offshore demonstrations are ill intentioned and betray a calculated conspiracy to dent the image of the country of origin.
