SWASAL President entreat Sports Journalist to participate in the 2021 AIPS Sports Media Award

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson The president of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone(SWASAL) Sahr Morris Junior has called on SWSAL members and all sports journalists in Sierra Leone to submit their work broadcasted or published from November 10 to October 4, 2021 to compete in the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) prestigious Sport Media Awards 2021 edition. Prezo Morris on diverse occasions had encouraged members of his Association to embrace AIPS initiatives meant to develop Sports Journalism. Earlier last week he shared the award's link to the SWASAL National Whatsapp forum and wrote: “Good morning all. Members are encouraged to read through and submit their work.” The AIPS has distinguished 8 senior categories split into Photography (Action Picture, Portfolio), Writing (Best Column, Best Colour Piece), Video (Short Feature up to 10 minutes; Athlete Profile +10min, Documentary +10 min), opened to all Sports Journalists working in the print media or digital journalism, capturing action photography, developing portfolios, making video documentaries, social media videos and those from traditional radio and podcasts. The sums of Eight Thousand ($8000), three thousand ($3,000) and Two Thousand United States Dollars ($2,000) are up for grabs respectively for first, second and the third placed winners of each category while the Young Reporters Under-30 category which is been divided into three categories namely: Photography, Writing and Broadcasting, rewards first place winners with fully funded scholarships at a top international events. AIPS has confirmed that submission for this year’s award closes on October 4, 2021, at 6pm Central European Time. Further described the Award as multicultural and said: "all past three editions ushered in winners from all continents. It has been repeatedly recognized by top SWASAL members at various Sports Journalists gatherings that no Journalist from Sierra Leone took part in the first two editions of the AIPS Sports Media Award until last year when Multimedia Journalist Alusine Rehme Wilson and Desmond Tunde Coker of Premier News represented Sierra Leone for the first time who represented the nation well. "Kudos to Alusine Rehme Wilson whose story on CAFOnline.com was ranked among the best 10th pieces in the African continent, I’m looking forward to seeing a Sierra Leonean Sports Journalist bagging home gongs from the Global Sports Journalists celebration of excellence soonest,” said the SWASAL President. Participation in the AIPS Sports Media Awards is absolutely free and open to both members and non-members. Each individual is permitted to submit two of his or her works across all categories to be uploaded directly in the awards official website: www.aipsawards.com

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers
