Makeni Fashion Designers team up against Violence

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson
Models and Ballers, two amongst the most tending groups of Fashion Designers in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone on Sunday evening surprisingly converged at the Wusum Stadium for their maiden non-violence football match, organized by Osman Tee Mansaray alias ScanTee, the founder and leader of Team StarBoy Ballers.

Mansaray said the rationale behind the one day football match emerged following extensive engagements between himself and nine other members of his Ballers team one of the 15 member Associations of the Makeni Association of Ballers, approached the leaderships of the Makeni Models and Ballers Associations, and shared their vision to promote peace between the two fashion designing groups.

“The outcome of our engagements is indeed huge for the progress of careers as fashion designers of Makeni that represents the largest city in the Northern, and I’m particularly happy for such a successful and very peaceful friendly match to mark our readiness to promote peace at all times.” the Baller who is also an entrepreneur  further said.

After fulltime of the said friendly encounter, it was a big win for the Models team which was guided by leader of CH-1 Modeling Collection in Makeni, Ibrahim Kanu who’s nicknamed “Elder Ipod.'' They humbled their Balllers opponent by two goals to zero – (2-0) with Sheku Minkailu Conteh and Patrick Babah Koroma both scoring for the Models in the first half.

Despite losing by such a goal margin, Head coach of the Ballers Albert Mohamed Bangura who is nicknamed Prezo Don Wize of Team Emizen Baller said “he’s not boarded by the defeat but rather takes away the joy, understanding and accord they(Ballers) has established with the Models to see themselves as one family committed to enduring peace amongst the fashion designing family even though they may share some different beliefs.”

Nonetheless, it is worth noting that the group of youths in Makeni that have shifted their interests to Fashion Designing are of the believe that the career which is mostly considered as a dumping ground for idlers is completely the opposite as in the case of the Makeni Ballers Association which focuses on living a materialistic and an extravagant lifestyle putting on oversized dress to make money with the believe to trend and increases socialization while the models are taking to contesting at Beauty and Designing races, at the same time model cosmetic products, wear fashionable clothing on runways and setting up  their own brand amongst others.
