Sierra Leone Media Set for Maiden Journalism Welfare Fund

For the first time in the history of Sierra Leone’s Media, the elite vocation is set to get its maiden Journalism Welfare Fund launched for Journalists, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalist-(SLAJ) announced on Friday.

According to the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists-(SLAJ), the launching of the Journalism Welfare Fund will take place at the Association’s multipurpose hall in Freetown on Monday, 14th February, 2022 as part of SLAJ’s Golden Jubilee Celebration.

SLAJ President, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla says the time is now for members of the public to show some love to Journalists and by extension to the media family in Sierra Leone by contributing to the Journalism Welfare Fund which he confirmed has already been embraced by Mercury International among other key national development partners of the Sierra Leone Association of Sierra Leone.

On the purpose of the Journalism Welfare Fund, the SLAJ President has since said: “the fund will be exclusively used on membership welfare and generally to cover Emergency lifesaving and a range of other activities pertaining to rescuing Journalists in need as well as giving a brighter face to Journalism in Sierra Leone.”

The Journalism Welfare Fund when launched officially on Monday, 14th February, 2022 will become the first ever fund exclusively meant for SLAJ members that will be used to invest on other journalism related programs for the good of the media in Sierra Leone since the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists-(SLAJ) was established on June 5th 1971 with the primary motive to promote freedom of expression, strive to uphold good journalism through self-regulation amongst other best practices of journalism.

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers
