By: Alusine Rehme Wilson
East End Lions defense has been boosted once again following the arrival of its promising left back Abdul Razack Conteh. Conteh rejoined his East End Lions teammates for training on April 19 in Freetown and resumed top-tier action for the 2019 League Champions last Friday, after being overseas for nearly six months.
East End Lions FC’s Head coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara introduced the gigantic and promising left back together with his teammate Abu Dumbuya in the 88th minute during their match day 29 1-0 victory against Anti Drugs FC at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni. Prior to the end of the Sierra Leone Premier League first round last year, Conteh left the shores of Freetown for a proposed trial with Portuguese side FC Porto resulting to him missing out a spot from the senior national men’s team (Leone Stars) 2021-AFCON Squad.

The skillful defender who last skipped the national men’s U-20 at a WAFU-A tournament was reported to have been stranded in Gambia where his hopes of securing a visa to Portugal for the proposed trial with FC Porto was dashed.

In a post match interview with AWE-Media.SL, the former Marampa Stars defender was about his impression rejoining his East End Lions Football Club teammates for top-tier actions after missing out for a while, and about his journey to joining FC Port which never was, the talented and humble left back in his reply, “expressed delight for his return to top-tier actions with “the Killers” but refused to comment about his overseas travel at the moment.”

Senegal, on the other hand, is one of Africa’s most famous football nations, nicknamed the “Lions of Teranga.” In 2002, ...

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
