Youth Groups team-up to rehabilitate deplorable Makeni CBD Road

The once deplorable Makeni Central Business District area road on Rogbaneh road by the city’s clock tower was rehabilitated over the weekend by Youth Groups from various areas in Makeni city and its environs who had teamed up with famous businessman and politician Abubakarr “Lamtales” Kamara.

The youth groups included youth from the Makama Young Shall Grow Organization, Friends United, Stocco Area and Ade Street Youth Groups that collaborated with members of the Friends of Lamtales to rehabilitate the road on Sunday.

According to representatives of some of the Youth Groups, their latest collaboration was born out of the desire to save lives of the people of Makeni and other users of the rehabilitated from getting injured in the deplorable Makeni CBD area.


“We’re into this partnership with the sole ambition to give back to our city through development of this nature and to also send a signal to duty bearers that we are thirsty for development which is why our youthful workforce is readily available to partake in any development project,'' said Ahmed Menjor Sesay.

Another representative named Moses Kamara told Awoko Newspaper that Sierra Leoneans specifically Youth should begin to ask themselves what they have done for the country, rather than lying back asking the question what the country has done for them. ‘Our move to rehabilitate this road voluntarily is as a result of our willingness to contribute towards the development of the city, and to also inspire fellow youth to step up and be youthful to their respective communities.


Speaking on behalf of the Friends of Lamtales was Mr. Abubakarr Lamtales Mansaray, a famous businessman and politician in Makeni city. He said the move is purely apolitical, ‘I resolved to sponsor this project when the various youth groups approached me, because it's community development that will benefit several others which is part of the desire to always serve my people.

Some Traders, pedestrians, bike riders and other users of the said road unanimously said in an interview with Awoko Newspaper that they’re joyous that the road which is situated at the heartbeat of the northern city of Makeni is being rehabilitated. This rehabilitation gives us enough joy and reassures our safety from picking up accidents on this road, we’re thankful to the pioneers that stood firm to solve our aging problem, added Sallay Koroma, a petty trader near the area.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District
