By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

One of Sierra Leone’s most successful models Abubakarr Tarawalie, the owner of Kish Leone and President of the Makeni Models Union who doubles as a baker at the United Bank of Africa Makeni branch is set to host this Friday, 25th November, 2022 at the Garden State complex “the Faces of High School” inter-secondary academic and modeling contest for boys and girls attending nine secondary schools in Makeni city, Northeastern Sierra Leone.

The event has been segmented into two, an inter-secondary brain challenge and modeling contest amongst 40 school going pupils representing the Birch Memorial, United Methodist, Makeni Comprehensive Academy, Saint Francis, Saint Joseph Convent, Benevolent Islamic, Every Nation Academy, Finoh International High School, Modern High School, International College of Makeni and the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Secondary School.

According to the Model turned banker and former Mr. Supernatural Poland Sierra Leone representative, 2018 Mr. UNIMAK and Mr. Bombali, “the upcoming event is part of his company’s (Kish Leone Collections) “Give-back to society” project which aimed to building the debating techniques of high school pupils, nourish their urge for modeling while promoting their innovative thinking abilities and helping them develop the link between words and ideas that will make their concepts more meaningful.

“You know a sound mind is found in a sound body and entertainment is a crucial factor that makes possible for people from different backgrounds and races to socialize and interact, this reason also forms part of my desire for organizing this inter-secondary school challenge which is designed to be organized every year successively after this very maiden edition,” he explained.

He went on to say: “I’m a model, a graduate, entrepreneur and banker at UBA. This is made possible by God and my commitment to chase every dream of mine. I want to continue to inspire this generation and starting off my give-back to society project with high school pupils in Makeni on Friday is the best thing to have happened to me in recent time.

“This vision rhymes with the theme of this year’s project give-back to society: “Students Academic and Social Transformation” and to stay committed to this course, I and few other partners have hugely invested to make this event a success and for sure 50p of funds to be generated from this event will be going back to donations of school and learning materials to school going pupils in rural communities,” he additionally said in the interview with AWE-Media.SL in Makeni.

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
