By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

30 years ago when the famous Dabor family of lower Bamabara chiefdom in the eastern regional district of Kenema welcomed their last born (Alie Dabor), no one knew he was going to spend all his days in the northeastern city of Makeni and braking barriers.

The last born from the family of 5 had since settled, and recently made history when he was awarded the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) ticket as the fittest candidate to contest for the prestigious Bombali District Council Chairmanship in the June 24 polls, becoming the youngest candidate across all political parties to race for such top seat.

Dabor who clocked 30 a few months ago, main contender in the June 24 elections is APC’s Dr. Mohamed Mark Barbah Sisay, but he says he has “no fears” racing with him. I drew my inspiration while growing up and schooling in Bombali and Kenema district which let me see the need to always step up for my peers,” he disclosed.

And wen on to say “My bid to become the next Chairperson of the Bombali District Council is to become the electorates’ pillar for sustainable development. I’ve come to understand that most youths among others are struggling because of bad leadership and management of resources of Bombali District by previous chairpersons of the council, this is what I’m poised to change,” he assured.

When asked about how confident he’s with his party’s named Adama Saccoh as his deputy chairperson aspirant, Dabor replied saying “I’m very hopeful that Madam Saccoh’s pairing alines with my bid to historically put an end to the over five decades long dominance of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party in our district which deserves more.

“I know the problems of women but I believe my deputy understand them better and with me as their next Chairman their problems as well as those of the aged and youth would be solved, thus, I want to use this opportunity to call on eligible voters to vote wisely for me, President Bio and others not on the basis of party but by our unhindered mantra and prosperous sustainable development agendas.”

Revealing some of this plans for Bombali District, Dabor says he “will switch focus to writing projects to secure loan and grants to support women to venture into businesses, provide support to locals of some of the most deprived villages to embark on massive agricultural projects, work with partners to expand on energy especially, renewable energy for villages and towns, prioritize waste management, will also offer scholarship opportunities to Youths to attain several skills on technical and vocational education, lobby for an increase in the grants in aid quota for university students in Bombali District, when I’m voted at the next chairperson of the Bombali District Council.”

Academic check: AWE-Media.SL have learned that Dabor started his schooling at the Our Lady of Fatima primary school in Makeni city, Bombali, and two years later returned to Kenema for his early junior secondary school education at the Government Secondary School in Kenema before gaining admission at the United Methodist Secondary School, in Makeni as a JSS-III pupil, there he stayed for three more years in the senior secondary school level and came out with flying colors at his high school exams (WASSCE) in 2010 to earn him admission at the University  of Makeni (UniMak).

At UniMak, Dabor bagged his first degree in 2020 (BSc. Degree in Accounting and Finance), he then sought after his post graduate degree at the same university where he was duly certified and awarded a Masters degree in Business Administration and Finance,  currently, he awaits graduation to receive his second post graduate degree from the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST)  in Cooperate Governance,  Accounting,  Auditing and Taxation.

Work Life: We’ve also learned that age has not been a barrier for Dabor who has previously offered voluntarily services as a secondary school community teacher in major schools in Makeni city including Birch Memorial Secondary School. He’s the founder of ZAZI Syndicate of Academic Excellence where himself and 20 other teachers have been offering affordable quality extra classes to both JSS and SSS pupils preparing for public examinations.

Apart from ZAZI Syndicate of Academic Excellence, Dabor also co-owned a Micro Finance Enterprise named “The Social Network Investment.” And has also served the people of Bombali District in the most difficult times during the Coronavirus outbreak in Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio appointed him as the Finance Officer of the District COVID-19 Emergency Response Center (DiCoVERC). In addition he has also been supportive to the activities of the Free Quality Education implementation in Bombali District through his participation in the conduct of surveys of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School in hard to reach areas in the northeastern region of Sierra Leone.
