James BoborDeen, a police Brutality victim in Bo who has been suffering from a pelvic injury since last September after five police officers in Bo allegedly assaulted him, his wife, apprentice and passengers was left crippled and unable to do anything for him since the incident took place.
The 47 year old was the only Truck Driver pliying from Bo to Kendema village in the Ngalu Mbagbeh chiefdom Bo District since 2010 and has been helpful to the villagers and the traders in local produce in that part of the country. A father of 7 children and two wives has been unable to do his work as the breadwinner of the family.
He narrated his ordeal to All out Radio 92.9FM in Bo that on the night of September 10th 2022 that after coming from his usual trip from the village with goods and 6 passengers at around 2am he was stopped by police officers on a patrol vehicle and he was immediately grabbed by his clothes while on his driving seat and was beaten by the police officers while a pepper spray was also used on him together with his apprentice some of his passengers and his wife.
They were later taken to the Bo police East where he was detained and his apprentice unconscious. After several hours he was ordered to come out of the cell but said can't able to neither walk nor stand by himself but his apprentice later helped him to do so who were in the same cell.
According to him, one of the police officers ordered him to go home but since cannot walk the police further threatened to fire him if he denied going home and later kicked him and inflicted more injuries on him.
During the morning hours he was able to identify some of the police officers who assaulted him to senior officers at the police station and later a medical form was issued to him after making his report.
Apparently ,Manif Jaffa the state Counsel Bo and Pujehun Districts at the time advised that "there is sufficient evidence against John Hinga Magay, Albert Vincent Sandy, Mohamed Sheik Koroma, Arun Mbayoh and Edwin Paul Taylor for the offence of Lack of civility, Assault, Wounding, Wounding with intent and other related offences and let them be changed accordingly. The advice supersedes advice with CR No 17/2022 dated 15th May 2023".
The state Counsel's advice was later sent to the police headquarters for further investigation according to the investigator ASP Ramy Tommy. The victim BoborDeen affirmed that, since then he has been visiting top hospitals in the country for proper medical attention but according to medical reports, his condition is beyond border as his pelvic cavil has been diagnosed as dislocated and can only be treated outside Sierra Leone.
A father of seven children and two wives' situation remains perplexing as he cries for Help to philanthropists and the government to help him get proper treatment outside Sierra Leone as advised by medical Doctors and also to get justice.
