On Tuesday, November 5, Sahr Morris Jr., the current President of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL), successfully completed the nomination process as he aims for re-election to serve a second and final term as the leader of the country's sports journalism community.

Following the conclusion of his nomination, President Morris expressed gratitude to the membership for their unity and support in fostering the development and advancement of the Association.

The dedicated and experienced leader of SWASAL remarked, “Colleagues, the upcoming SWASAL Elective Congress is only weeks away. It is essential that we demonstrate our solidarity as one SWASAL, regardless of individual endorsements. Let us prioritize maintaining amicable relationships, peace, and mutual respect. Elections may come and go, but SWASAL will endure; thus, we should regard one another as family as we thoughtfully deliberate on the future direction of our Association over the next three years.”

The former Goal.com reporter and past FISU Student Ambassador in Sierra Leone stated, “I am seeking re-election as president for all sports journalists in Sierra Leone, not merely for a select few, as true success cannot be achieved by serving only a portion of our community. With unwavering faith and commitment, I gratefully accept the trust you have placed in me leading up to my nomination for re-election as SWASAL president. Thank you, and let us continue to uphold the principles of professional journalism while being prepared to seize the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Having received multiple accolades, including the SLAJ, IMC, NEA, News Vendor, and Best Sports Journalist awards, Morris is pursuing re-election after a fruitful first term characterized by the Association's resurgence on the international stage and the establishment of a Diploma in Sports Journalism course within the country's educational framework, among other achievements.

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified.
