Sierra Leone's U20 dislodged Liberians Senior National in MRU Tourney

In a highly decisive Match played on Tuesday at the Makeni Wusum Stadium, the Sierra Leone U20 female team (Shooting Starlet) dislodged the Liberians Senior National team 2-0 in match day-2 of 2024 Mano River Union tournament.

The hosts, dominated the first half creating several promising opportunities that could have given them an early lead over the visitors but the composure and confidence level of both teams became evident throughout the first half which ended goaless.

as they maintained and control the match despite their effort the resilient Liberian team held firm as both team failed to score in the first forty five minutes of action.

In the second half, both teams stepped up to secure the maximum points but it was the tactical discipline and tenacity of shooting starlets that paid off in the 65 minutes when Adama Mansaray scored the opener after smashing the ball from an open play to put her side infront.

Shooting Starlet held firm of their lead and would go on to score a second goal in the 86th minute through second half substitute Sarah Turay whose decisive goal comfortably saw them dislodged the Liberian senior National female team, marking shooting starlets first win in the three nations tournament.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone now leads the park with four points after two matches, followed by Guinea with a point and Liberia with no point so far.

This means Sierra Leone now awaits to know thier opponents for the grand finals finals when Guinea and Liberia lock horns later today in the last group match.

Head coach Fatmata Turay speaking on the performance of the team in post match interview said: "The girls played well and showed great character throughout the match, with such performance I have confidence that we are building a team that will help us a nation succeed at continental level." She remarked.

Coach Turay's vision could be actualized on December 8, when her side will face either Guinea and Liberia in the 2024 MRU female football tournament organized by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) led by Thomas Daddy Brima with the vision to foster unity and uniqueness among the MRU nations to better prepare them for other contential competitions.
