FC Cincinnati has officially announced the signing of veteran Sierra Leonean striker Kei Ansu Kamara, marking the latest chapter in his storied Major League Soccer (MLS) career.
The 40-year-old joins Cincinnati as a free agent, signing a contract through the end of the 2025 season, with a club option for 2026, and will be added to the roster in a supplementary spot.
Kamara, one of the league’s most prolific goal scorers, is set to join his 12th MLS club for match actions, a testament to both his longevity and consistent impact.
FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright expressed enthusiasm over the signing: “We’re excited to add a player of Kei’s quality, experience, and leadership to FC Cincinnati. He’s clearly one of the most prolific goal scorers in league history, and his skill set brings a different dimension to our attack. We warmly welcome Kei and his family to Cincinnati.”
Kamara enters this new phase of his career as the second all-time leading goal scorer in MLS regular-season history, with 147 goals, trailing only Chris Wondolowski’s record of 171.
In his 18th MLS season, Kamara has also logged 445 league appearances, making him the fourth-most capped player in league history.
Last season, Kamara played for Los Angeles FC, scoring eight goals in 40 appearances across all competitions. He notably found the net in extra time during LAFC’s U.S. Open Cup Final win.
Throughout his career, Kamara has also earned accolades including two MLS All-Star selections (2015, 2023), and the 2015 MLS Best XI honor after scoring a career-high 22 goals with Columbus Crew.
Kamara began his MLS journey in 2006 as the ninth overall pick in the SuperDraft by Columbus Crew.
Following stints with San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo, he made a major impact at Sporting Kansas City (2009–2013), scoring 40 goals and winning the 2012 U.S. Open Cup, netting a goal and converting a penalty in the final.
He also briefly played in England, featuring in 11 Premier League matches for Norwich City in 2013 and scoring in a 2-1 win over Everton.
After returning to Kansas City, Kamara signed with Middlesbrough in the English Championship, tallying four goals in 25 appearances.
Kamara rejoined Columbus Crew for a second spell, delivering a standout 22-goal season in 2015 that helped propel the team to the MLS Cup Final.
His extensive MLS resume includes time with New England Revolution, Vancouver Whitecaps, Colorado Rapids, Minnesota United, CF Montréal, Chicago Fire, and LAFC.
He also had a brief stint in Europe with Finnish club HIFK in 2021, and has represented Sierra Leone’s national team 43 times, scoring seven goals.
Most recently, he captained the Leone Stars during the March FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, including a 1-0 loss to Egypt.
Now joining FC Cincinnati, Kamara brings not just experience and firepower, but also the chance to further cement his legacy in MLS history.
