Ibrahim Bradshaw Champions Surfing for Sierra Leone with Wave Alliance

By: Desmond Paine, Sports Correspondent

As the sun glistens on the azure waters of Sierra Leone's stunning coastline, a wave of change is surging through the world of surfing, led by passionate young leaders like Ibrahim Bradshaw.

At just 25 years old, Bradshaw stands at the helm of this movement as one of the coordinators for United Sierra Leone (Wave Alliance), a vibrant youth-led initiative founded by the visionary Messeh Leone.

This program is dedicated not only to fostering the sport of surfing but also to empowering young individuals throughout the region.

Reflecting on his journey, Bradshaw shared the pivotal moment that drew him to the ocean. “I began my surfing adventure in 2019, thanks to my manager Messeh Leone, who opened the door to this exhilarating world,” he recounted with enthusiasm.

Since that transformative year, he has experienced unforgettable moments on the waves, riding the crests of Sierra Leone's pristine beaches and developing a profound connection to the ocean.

His commitment to the sport has taken him beyond his homeland, where he has travelled to the neighbouring coasts of Senegal and Liberia, immersing himself in diverse surfing cultures and gaining invaluable training.

As he prepares for another trip back to Liberia, Bradshaw is not just a surfer; he embodies the spirit and aspirations of his country. “This time, I want to represent Sierra Leone and absorb as much knowledge and experience as I can about surfing,” he emphasized.

“To make this journey possible, I am seeking support from those who believe in the potential of our youth and the power of surfing.”

With a clear vision and an expanding community rallying behind him, Ibrahim Bradshaw symbolizes a burgeoning movement in Sierra Leone, where surfing transcends the boundaries of mere sport.

His journey is a testament to the resilience and dreams of a new generation, harnessing the ocean's power to connect, inspire, and cultivate a brighter future.

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
