Claim: Facebook video shows Mbappe criticising Madrid, requesting contract termination and return to PSG.

Verdict: False. The original video on Real Madrid’s website spotlights Mbappe as he talks about his side’s valiant performance in their 0-3 victory against Real Valladolid. Besides, no reputable media outlet reported the alleged claim.

Less than a year ago, French international Kylian Mbappe joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer, a month after terminating his contract with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Despite winning six league titles in Paris and extending his contract by two years in 2022, the 26-year-old was always keen on moving to Spain to join Real Madrid. However, despite registering a wholesome 28-goal tally and three assists since playing in LaLiga, he has been hopeless as his new club has clinched no trophy in their 2024/2025 campaigns.

Real Madrid’s chances of winning any silverware are bleak after a disappointing Champions League exit and a stunning loss to archrivals Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey. Moreover, last week, the Catalans’ 2-0 win against Espanyol further stripped Los Blancos of the chance of lifting silverware in the domestic league.

Amidst this, a Facebook user, Moses Ochu, shared a video showing the French international berating Madrid for failing to win a trophy in local and international tournaments. Mbappe allegedly requested Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, to terminate his contract so that he could return to Paris.

“I’m asking the Real Madrid president to please terminate my contract immediately. I’m done playing for this dogshit club and I want to go back to Paris now. I’m tired of carrying this shit players every match, even Harry Kane won a trophy yesterday,” the 26-year-old allegedly said.

As of Friday, May 16, 2025, the claim had earned 18,000 likes, 2,000 comments, and 661,000 views.

While some Facebook users accepted the clip’s authenticity, some were quick to dispel it as artificial intelligence-generated.

“It may be AI, but there is truth between the lines,” Nyah Kenneth Nsuh expressed.

“It’s real. Mbappe does not get any support from the entire team,” Meshai Kai said.

“This is the highest-rated AI video I have seen,” Princely Chika wrote.

“This is a big lie. Mbappe has never and would never say such nonsense,” Kadir Ali argued.

We also found the claim on  TikTok.

Following the controversy over the post’s validity in the comment section, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim.

Verification

DUBAWA subjected some of the video’s keyframes to Google Reverse Image Search. The results suggested the original video was from a post-match interview after Real Valladolid lost to Real Madrid.

So we conducted a keyword search on Google of Mbappe doing a post-match interview with Real Madrid after Villadolid’s 0-3 defeat to the visitors. We found the original video on Real Madrid’s website, where the striker felt ecstatic and spoke about his team’s impressive performance in their clash with Valladolid. This was reported on Jan. 25, 2025

“I’m happy with the hat-trick. But above all, the three points. It was essential to win today because the Atletico result put us under pressure. We started well, pressing in the opposition’s half and scored the first goal… We are going to Madrid with this win.” Mbappe said.

Madrid Universal and Goal.com also reported the French international’s post-match interview.

DUBAWA checked for news reports of the striker’s alleged statements about terminating his contract with the Spanish side but found no credible publications.

Conclusion

The claim is false. The video is a manipulated version of an interview from Real Madrid’s website, in which Mbappe discussed his side’s triumph over Real Valladolid.
