By: Desmond Paine

Wilde Ganzen has proudly concluded a dynamic three-day intensive training program designed to elevate community engagement and foster sustainable change among its partner organisations and community-based groups in the vibrant city of Makeni.

The training attracted a diverse group of participants from various regions across Sierra Leone, creating a rich atmosphere of cross-regional learning and collaboration.

Under the guidance of Esly Van Dam, Project Advisor at Wilde Ganzen, attendees were immersed in a series of interactive sessions that introduced a range of practical tools and innovative strategies to effectively engage communities in their development efforts.

One of the standout moments of the training occurred on the second day when the spotlight turned to the compelling topic of Social Enterprise.

This engaging session, led by the passionate Daniel Bangura, Coordinator of the Sport For Empowerment Foundation Sierra Leone Makeni branch, provided valuable insights into how to create sustainable initiatives that not only empower local communities but also promote financial independence and resilience.

In addition to the core thematic sessions, Daniel Bangura conducted a specialised Excel training geared towards project and finance leaders from six different organisations.

This hands-on workshop was specifically designed to enhance the administrative and financial management skills of local NGOS, equipping participants with essential data management techniques crucial for effective project oversight.

Feedback from attendees reflected a widespread sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm.

Many expressed eagerness to implement their newfound knowledge and tools within their communities, aiming to ignite grassroots-led development and foster lasting positive change.

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
