World War III: List of Countries with Nuclear Weapons as Israel-Iran War Escalates

By: Joseph Momoh Conteh

The Israel-Iran war has entered its tenth day, and the centre of the conflict has been emanated from the production of nuclear weapons.

As of date, only nine countries in the world own nuclear weapons, and Israel is not an exception, while Iran has yet to be in such a position.

However, Russia and the United States own  the largest percentage of the nuclear warheads in the world, which pose a potential threat to the existence of mankind.

As it stands, Israel has continued its offensive attacks on Iran over the allegation that its regional neighbour was building a nuclear weapon, an allegation that the Iranian government has neither denied nor confirmed.

Why Nuclear Power?
The building of nuclear power is becoming the order of the day, as it appears that any country that has it would not be threatened by a world power.

However, as against the desire of humanity, the likelihood that nuclear weapons would one day be used, and the world is becoming more unstable.

According to ICAN over 9,600 of these nuclear facilities are active military stockpiles, citing the report of the Federation of Atomic Scientists' 2025 Status of the World's Nuclear Forces.

While noting a significant decline in the 70,000 warheads belonging to the nuclear-armed countries during the Cold War, there are tendencies for them to grow in the next decade, considering the vast capability of today's forces.

Names of Countries and Number of Nuclear Weapons include: Russia 5,449, USA 5,244, China 600, France 290, United Kingdom 225, India 180, Pakistan 170, Israel 90 and North Korea 50.

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
