The Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) Union of Academic Staff Associations (UASA) has successfully completed a smooth transition in leadership, as Dr. Brima Gegbeh officially passed the mantle of presidency to Mr. James Saysay Kanu.
In his farewell message, Dr. Gegbeh thanked members for their unwavering support throughout his term. He emphasized the importance of remaining dedicated to the association's mission and goals, and he encouraged everyone to rally behind the new president to ensure continued progress.
During his inaugural speech, Mr. Saysay Kanu expressed sincere gratitude to his predecessor, the Secretary-General, and the outgoing executive team for their meaningful contributions and lasting impact on the association.
He remarked, “Today, we are proudly adding another milestone to the history of our esteemed and dynamic association, which plays a vital role in the nation’s tertiary education sector.”
Mr. Kanu acknowledged the many challenges UASA has faced since its formation in 2019, including a range of complex welfare concerns. However, he emphasized that the unity and collective effort of academic staff have been central to the union’s progress.
He urged members to maintain that same spirit of solidarity and collaboration, which has become a hallmark of UASA’s growth and influence.
“I am fully conscious of the difficult path ahead,” he said. “But together, with determination and unity, we can overcome every obstacle.”
To close, Mr. Kanu invited all attendees to join him in singing the powerful anthem of perseverance and hope: "We Shall Overcome."
This leadership change signals, not just a new chapter for UASA, but a continued commitment to advocacy, unity, and excellence within the academic community.
