As excitement builds for the 16th edition of the Ernest Bai Koroma (EBK) Trophy, Hon. Bangura has reiterated the government’s unwavering support for grassroots football development and community empowerment through sports.
Speaking during the official press briefing held in Makeni, Hon. Bangura hailed the EBK Trophy as one of Sierra Leone’s most impactful community tournaments, uniting people from all walks of life through the spirit of football.

The EBK Trophy is here to stay,” Hon. Bangura emphasised, underscoring the competition’s enduring legacy in promoting grassroots football, strengthening community unity, and empowering young people across the region.
He noted that the tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing local talent, many of whom have gone on to represent Sierra Leone at national and international levels.
According to him, the EBK Trophy stands as a shining example of how sports can be used as a tool for social cohesion, youth engagement, and peacebuilding.
Hon. Bangura also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with community stakeholders, football administrators, and sponsors to ensure that young people are given the right opportunities to excel through sports.

We believe that football is more than just a game it is a unifying force that brings hope, discipline, and purpose to our youth. Through initiatives like the EBK Trophy, we are shaping a brighter future for Sierra Leone,” he added.
The EBK Trophy, now in its 16th edition, continues to attract widespread participation and enthusiasm from teams across Bombali, Tonkolili, Kambia, Port Loko, and Karene districts.
Beyond competition, it has become a festival of unity, showcasing local talent, sportsmanship, and the power of community spirit.
As preparations reach their final stages, anticipation is growing for yet another memorable tournament that will celebrate not only football excellence but also the resilience and togetherness of the Northern Region and Sierra Leone at large.
