Statistics Sierra Leone's cartographic mapping awareness reaches Oslo Amputee Camp, Panlap, Masongbo, other Bombali communities...


On Thursday, November 13, 2025, residents of Oslo Amputee Camp at Rochain, Fullah Town, Sesay Street, Sylvanus Street, Timbo Car Wash, Panlap, Yeli Sanda, Yoni, Masongbo, and other communities in and around Makeni city warmly received the cartographic mapping awareness message from Statistics Sierra Leone through a loud-hailer vehicle publicity exercise.

Introducing myself as the Northern Regional Publicity Officer (RPO) for the 2026 National Population and Housing Census, I extended warm greetings from the leadership and management of Statistics Sierra Leone and its partners. 

And will the solicited consent of residents, adhesive posters were placed at strategic points to boost visibility as part of the awareness drive by Statistics Sierra Leone's Communications and Public Relations Directorate supported by the leadership  and partners.

During the engagement, residents were informed that Statistics Sierra Leone commenced a nationwide cartographic mapping exercise on October 14, 2025, is the first critical stage of the upcoming 2026 National Population and Housing Census scheduled for December 2, 2026.

The mapping exercise, which involves the counting and identification of structures and landmarks such as houses, schools, markets, religious centers, and sports facilities, is being conducted in phases across all districts. It's largely, a foundational process that will ensure the accuracy and inclusiveness of the main census.

Residents were requested to cooperate fully with mappers during field operations. In response, some to them expressed appreciation for the outreach, commended Statistics Sierra Leone for engaging communities directly, and pledged to share the message disseminated through the Krio jingle and loud-hailer presentations.

The publicity team also visited the Panlap Police Station, where the Local Unit Commander, Operations Commander, Support Officer, and Media Officer warmly embraced the awareness initiative.

The Thursday day-long outreach marked the climax of week five of the scheduled eight-week public awareness raising campaign, organized by the Communications and Public Relations Directorate of Statistics Sierra Leone with support from the Government of Sierra Leone, UNFPA, and Irish Aid.
 
On the same day, the loud-hailing further covered other landmarks in Makeni city and its environs, including the Our Lady Primary School, the University of Makeni (Yoni Campus), Stocco Junction, and Masongbo, conducting additional door-to-door awareness sessions.

Meanwhile, the loud-hailer publicity is scheduled to continue on Sunday and Monday, November 16 and 17, 2025, targeting Makump, Matenneh, Mayorloh, Magburaka Town, and other strategic points in Bombali and Tonkolili Districts.
