Mena Queens Seek Redemption as League Leaders Mogbwemo Visit Makeni

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Makeni-based female outfit Mena Queens Football Club will be aiming to bounce back from a humiliating 5-0 defeat as they host league leaders Mogbwemo Queens in a crucial Marampa Mines Women’s Premier League encounter at the Wusum Stadium on Sunday morning.

The hosts, currently languishing in eighth place with 18 points, face a daunting task against a dominant Mogbwemo side sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 45 points, a staggering 27-point gap between the two teams.

For Mena Queens, the fixture presents more than just a chance to earn three points. It is an opportunity to restore pride following their heavy loss away to Ram Kamara Football Club in Bo.

With the season entering a decisive phase, the Makeni side will be desperate to steady their campaign and avoid another setback on home soil.

Their head coach Fatmata Turay acknowledged the strength of their opponents but struck a determined tone ahead of the clash.

“We respect Mogbwemo Queens for their quality, but our focus is on getting a positive result. We want to seek revenge after they defeated us in the first leg,” she said.

Mogbwemo Queens, however, arrive in Makeni with confidence and clear intent. The league leaders are pushing to consolidate their position at the summit, with second-placed Ram Kamara Football Club trailing closely on 42 points.

However, a victory for the visitors would further tighten their grip on the title race, while any slip-up could open the door for their nearest challengers.

With pride, revenge, and title ambitions all at stake, the Makeni showdown promises a fiercely contested battle between two sides with contrasting fortunes but equally strong motivation.

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
