The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on Saturday 27th June 2026 held its first-quarter Extraordinary Congress at the Wizard Complex on Dambala Road in Bo, bringing together football delegates, stakeholders, government officials, and partners to discuss the progress and future of football administration in the country.
Addressing the 55 out of 57 delegates in attendance, SLFA President Babadi Kamara reaffirmed his administration's commitment to transparency, accountability, and respect for the SLFA Constitution. He noted that his leadership is the first in the Association's history to convene an Extraordinary Congress within the first quarter of its tenure, describing the move as a demonstration of good governance.
Kamara revealed that since the assuming office, the Association has settled more than US$250,000 in outstanding liabilities owed to hotels, internet service providers, and security institutions.
"Since I took over as President of the Federation, we have paid over US$250,000 in liabilities to hotels, internet service providers, and the security sector," he stated.
The SLFA President highlighted several achievements recorded during his first year in office, including the organization of numerous capacity-building programs for referees, football administrators, and other stakeholders. He also emphasized the Association's strengthened collaboration with international football bodies and its commitment to complying with CAF and FIFA statutes.
On infrastructure development, Kamara pointed to ongoing improvements at the SLFA Secretariat as evidence of his administration's commitment to developing football facilities.
"To be SLFA President or Executive Director is not an opportunity to enrich yourself but an opportunity to serve your country," Kamara told delegates.
He further disclosed that the Association has secured several strategic partnerships, including sponsorship agreements with Leone Rock Metal Group for the Sierra Leone Premier League, Marampa Mines for the Women's Premier League, Orange Sierra Leone, africell alongside collaborations with the National Olympic Committee and other institutions.
Kamara also urged delegates to protect the integrity of the Association, stressing the importance of responsible leadership and personal sacrifice in advancing Sierra Leone football.
Representing the National Sports Authority (NSA), Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq. commended the SLFA leadership for convening the Extraordinary Congress in line with its constitutional provisions.
"I was mandated by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio to promote decorum at the Football Association," Conteh said.
He explained that decorum goes beyond the absence of disagreement, describing it as respect for the Association's laws and constitution. He praised the SLFA leadership for setting a positive example and encouraged other sporting associations to follow suit by adhering to their constitutional requirements.
Conteh also called on all football stakeholders to unite behind the national team and work collectively towards Sierra Leone's qualification for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the development of sports across the country. She urged sporting associations to uphold high standards of governance and professionalism while encouraging athletes, especially young people, to join the fight against drug abuse through the positive values promoted by sports.
