Kholifa Stars Football club officials, and others soccer supporters across the Northern region are mourning the passing of Abdul “Adebayor” Bangura, a celebrated commercial driver and revered regional sports figure whose selfless service transcended deep club rivalries.
Bangura, a devoted support of former Sierra Leone premier league side Kholifa Stars of Magburaka, has over time served as a vital transportation and logistics partner for local sports, died recently following years of dedicated service to regional football.
He has been buried in his hometown in the Paki Masabong Chiefdom, Bombali District, in the Northeastern province of Sierra Leone.
Though a commercial transport driver by trade, Bangura earned widespread renown for safely navigating teams through grueling travel schedules across Sierra Leone.
While primary driver and loyal companion to Tonkolili District’s Kholifa Stars FC, he most recently accompanying them through the National Division One Playoffs in Port Loko, and also regularly transported rival outfits as well, including fierce cross-town rivals Golden Dragons FC.
“The Late Bangura, was more than a driver, he was a dependable football companion whose contributions will not be forgotten," said Alimamy Joseph Saio Bangura, Public Relations Officer for Kholifa Stars FC, in an official club statement.
The late soccer fan and logistics anchor’s funeral drew an unprecedented turnout from the Sierra Leonean sports community including top club executives, players, and supporters from competing teams stood side-by-side to honor a man widely credited with bolstering grassroots football infrastructure in the region through steadfast devotion and friendship.
