​“West Africa Champions Cup underway in August”-GFF President Assures

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Antonio Souare, the President of the Guinea Football Federation-(GFF) and owner of Horoya Athletic Club has disclosed sponsoring a maiden three-nation football tournament scheduled to kick-off in August this year. Although he’s at the moment tight lipped on the total amount of money he will be pumping into the championship, he said the rationale to staging the tournament is “to help Guinean, Malian and Senegalese clubs to better prepare for the CAF Champions League.” The maiden tournament has been named the West Africa Champions Cup and is scheduled to be played from 21st to 25th August, 2022 in Guinea. Host Horoya Athletic Club, Djoliba Athletic Club of Mali, Academie Soar of Guinea and Cesa Sports of Senegale announced as the four football clubs to compete for the maiden title. On the road to lifting their 3rd Starburst Park Equal Opportunity trophy, Rising Queens shared the spoils in a goalless tournament opener, proceeded and dismantled tournament debutants and returnees Area Queens and Malimba Queens 6-0 and 4-0 respectively. The successive victories helped them to book a date with Konsho Queens who they eventually defeated for the second time in the same stage of the monthly female tournament’s grand finals.
